NieR and Nausicaä

I rewatched Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind recently and was a) struck by how wonderful of a movie it is and b) struck by the surprising number of times it reminded me of the video game NieR:Automata . Case below:

1. The monsters/robots are harmless until their eyes go red.

2. These songs: Nausicaä , Nier 1 , Nier 2 .

3. Main character in short skirt. Amusingly here, Nausicaä’s skirt situation is so… unique that the top Google results include many discussions about whether or not she’s wearing skin-colored pants/leggings. (Spoiler, she is, but that tone is… a choice.)

4. Boring post-apocalyptic symmetry.

5. Exciting giant warriors.
