4 little bits of Tech, that you might find interesting…
Good Morning and Happy Tuesday. Welcome to issue 57 of The Tech Stop.
AI cyberattacks imminent, Z.ai releases affordable AI model, and AI in workspace and banking industry!
Intelligence agencies from the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand have declared that AI-powered cyberattacks capable of taking down businesses and governments are "months away”. Legacy technology is flagged as the highest-risk category. AI tools already be running may be widening the attack surface faster than IT governance can track. OpenAI has released GPT-5.5-Cyber so organisations can scan codebases, trace attack paths and validate vulnerabilities. More and more.
POV: Complete an immediate full audit of all AI-connected systems against the Five Eyes security-by-design checklist, and confirm that AI failure and recovery scenarios have been documented and tested. Evaluate tools like Codex Security, and brief the board that this is a regulatory compliance matter, and not IT maintenance.Z.ai has released GLM-5.2, an open-source AI model that ranks third globally on independent benchmarks, and is available at a quarter of the cost of comparable frontier proprietary models. More.
POV: Evaluate GLM-5.2 for AI tooling where cost, data sovereignty, or access continuity is a concern.Anthropic has launched Claude Tag for Slack and Teams, embedding an always-on AI agent into channels that can proactively intervene in conversations without being tagged, however, this could create information governance risks. More.
POV: Evaluate Claude Tag against data governance policies before deployment, and confirm admin controls are sufficient to prevent Claude from accessing commercially sensitive data without authorisation.Banking groups Lloyds and Santander have announced huge AI-driven cost savings and financial benefits, however, KPMG warn against not testing the effects on the business of an AI outage. More and more.
POV: Ensure there is a documented AI failure and recovery plan, specifically for any AI tools that involve procurement, scheduling, or safety.
Something to keep an eye on: Combining metals to create a super alloy - one that is stronger and tougher - requires extremely high temperatures. A different approach could yield better alloys with a lot less heat.
That’s it for now - I hope this week was a little more bullish! Back in 7 days folks 😀
