Update on Tysons West Wastewater Systems Enhancements (Tysons Sewer) project
This email is to alert everyone to the urgent need for action by TCA to try to change the proposed route of the of the Tysons Sewer project. As some of you know, the current proposal for the Tysons Sewer would install a 3-foot diameter pipe up the middle of Abbotsford Drive, down Rhapsody Drive to the Tanglewood Park entrance, through Tanglewood Park to Riviera Drive and then out of our subdivision to an existing gravity sewer interceptor. The Tysons Sewer project is necessary to accommodate future development of Tysons Corner and provides no benefit whatsoever to TCA homeowners. Obviously, the project will cause considerable disruption to many of our homeowners for up to a year, as streets are cut and trenched to lay the pipe and to relocate existing water, sewer and utility lines. In addition to the traffic interruptions, there will be considerable noise from the heavy construction equipment in our neighborhoods.
Civil engineers who reside in Tanglewood have obtained the Preliminary Engineering Report under the Freedom of Information Act. They thoroughly reviewed the report and concluded that it lacks adequate justification for the proposed pipeline route through our subdivision. The report lists seven different routes for the pipeline. Alternate Route 6, the one that goes through our subdivision, is the current choice. We believe there are other alternates that make better sense from a civil engineering standpoint. Contacts with the county engineer for this project have been unproductive. Right now, we are attempting to meet with Walter Alcorn, our Hunter Mill District Supervisor, to get his help with having the County engineers listen to our reasons for believing another route would be preferred. We need to get this done quickly because Fairfax County has already begun initial surveying and collecting information for the design of the pipeline route.
If you would like to be involved with our efforts to influence Supervisor Alcorn or the Fairfax County engineers, please contact me at president@tcavienna.org . As the saying goes, there is strength in numbers.
