Bridge work and park update
Hello Tanglewood neighbors,
I hope this message finds you and yours well. I am pleased to report that the work around the bridges in our park is complete and we expect to have the new signs installed next week. It’s wonderful to see so many people enjoying our park but I want to make you aware of some hazards.
In the course of the installation of the rocks around the bridges a large copperhead snake was spotted. Please be aware this is a venomous snake that is found in many habitats but prefers to be near streams, waterways and rocks. Of course, this is also a natural place where children enjoy playing. This snake usually freezes when it senses danger but will defend itself if disturbed. There are also large snapping turtles in the stream. My dog and I spent many happy hours around and in the stream and in my 20 years I have never heard of an incident. When exploring nature it always makes sense to be cautious.
Kindly keep your children away from the rocks that were installed at the bases of the bridges for support. This was done at the expense of our community association and I have observed some large rocks have already been disturbed.
Also, there is a picnic table at the Riviera entrance to the park that is in an unsafe location. Please do not use the table until the landscape is restored and the table is moved from the ledge by the creek.
For general information about our community please see the following Hunter Mill District News article from our Supervisor Walter Alcorn.
Stay safe!
