BEH0LD... Brombal Books!
Hey Everyone!
Welcome to the inaugural installment of Brombal Books! It’s the one-stop shop for all updates and ramblings regarding my (Tate Brombal's) comics career. Inspired by alliteration and Karen Berger, I’ll probably spend just as much time ranting about other comics as I do my own. I have some fun ideas for this space, and if you want to get to know me and my work better, this is probably the best way to do that -- besides the work itself, of course.
So, first of all, THANK YOU for being the very FIRST subscribers to this newsletter. I’ve been meaning to pull this together for a while now but the slow and painful decline of Twitter pushed me onward, as well as the release of my very first creator-owned comic...but more on that later! I'm keeping today's edition short, but I REALLY wanted to get this out to you today! So, let's get at it...

Synopsis: Greyson's world is crumbling following his brother's sudden and mysterious death... His sleepless nights are haunted by vivid nightmares of a terrifying monster, pushing him to the brink of losing both his sanity and his job as a social worker. But he's truly shaken to the core when his newest case-a young orphaned girl named Wren-is found at the scene of a brutal murder, just hours after first meeting Greyson.
The line between nightmare and waking life blurs as Greyson soon discovers that the monster from his dreams might just be real-a mythical, ancient beast that is bringing about the end of the world, with shocking connections to both him and Wren...
Our comic's title is apt because this is the BIG ONE for me. My first creator-owned comic coming to print since my debut two years ago with Barbalien: Red Planet. (I say " to print" because really The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos is my first creator-owned comic alongside James Tynion IV, Isaac Goodhart, Nick Robles, and everyone involved with that one! But that's not in print...yet!! For now, read it here.)
Needless to say, this comic deals with a lot of my current fears and anxieties in the world. I plucked them from my nightmares and often-overwhelming dread and channelled it all into here. And it's strange because the kernel of this story originates from before our current pandemic, but as I developed it more and more and reacted to the world around me... It became that much more relevant and, I guess, inspired.
I'll have more to say on this first issue in a future, spoiler-ridden installment, so for now, make sure to pick it up from your local comic shop! And feel free to share your thoughts online. I'd LOVE to hear what you all think!!
UPCOMING RELEASES
THE ODDLY PEDESTRIAN LIFE OF CHRISTOPHER CHAOS #3 [11/04/22]
This issue hit some delays -- but for the BEST reasons. Our interior artist extraordinaire, Isaac Goodhart, got married this past September! I attended! It was an incredibly fun wedding!!! With all of us back on track, the final two issues should return to regular scheduling. This issue kicks things into high gear and brings three unlikely (and monstrous!) heroes together in... detention?!
Here's a sneak peek at some of the artwork by Isaac and colorist K. Michael Russell!

TOPLoCC #3 will be out THIS Friday! Check it out online on the Tiny Onion Substack, as well as all previous issues. Our plan is for this book to have a long life ahead of it, so get onboard now! :)
UPCOMING APPEARANCES
THE BEGUILING Toronto, ON [11/02/22]
I'll be at The Beguiling in Toronto TODAY for the launch of Behold, Behemoth from 4 - 6pm! If you're in the city, please come and say hi! I'll be signing books and chatting comics. Bring a friend! Buy extra copies! Hand them out to strangers!! I won't stop you!!!
THAT'S ALL, FOLKS!
This was a shorter entry today (though it somehow STILL went on longer than expected). In the future, I'll be updating you on my current reads, favourite comics, plus whatever else I wanna throw in here and at your eyeballs. This is my first-ever newsletter, so bear with me as I adjust and it evolves. I hope to have MUCH prettier aesthetics for this thing in the future. We'll see if I ever have the time to figure all that out...
Thanks again for subscribing and talk soon!!
Behold,
Tate
