Tanagram Updates: January 2025
In December, I found a cofounder! She'll remain unnamed for now because she hasn't yet left her current job. She's someone I've known for a ~decade and the opportunity unexpectedly came up for us to work together, which I'm quite excited about.
We're now focusing on exploring and building our first product. In addition to the data lineage use cases I was exploring a few weeks ago, we think there's other promising use cases around visualizing and "mapping" codebases more generally.
Zooming out a step, I know I've gone back and forth between wanting to build a general-purpose product and taking a PLG approach, vs directly going after an enterprise's specific problem with a design partnership approach. The latter is tempting because it reduces PMF risk — assuming we choose a valuable problem to solve, then it just comes down to execution (can we solve it?). However, the enterprise sales cycle is long, the bar for delivering value is high (and, in some cases, binary), and given our lack of experience in the space, feedback cycles and time-to-close might be longer than we'd like at our early stage. That's why we're looking at additional PLG-based use cases that can be adopted by individual engineers or teams (within medium-to-large tech companies who have discretionary budget for tools).
In January, we'll be doing some more discovery calls to understand some of these new ideas, committing to an initial direction, and building as fast as we can. We'll also officially kick off the PearX accelerator program in the middle of the month. Exciting times!
