Sensing change
Sensing change
Last week I posted the following questions on LinkedIn and Twitter:
How can we know that living systems (societies, organisations, ecosystems) are changing on a level that Dana Meadows called ‘paradigm’ and Gregory Bateson called ‘attitude’? And how can we determine if they change to the ‘better’ or the ‘worse’ (whatever these words may mean)?
These questions are not about indicators or measures in a traditional sense. I’m interested in any kind of noticing or sensing (even those you would call ‘subjective’ or some people call esoteric) that could feed into a way of knowing that has some sort of rigour (again, rigour not in a traditional sense of statistical power or significance, but in a sense of integrity and coherence).
I have received some thoughtful answers but would like to collect some more. Please share your thoughts with me by replying to this email or via LinkedIn using this link: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/marcusjenal_how-can-we-know-that-living-systems-societies-activity-6947163144280522753-2il9
The Paper Museum
For the occasion of the publication of the 8th issue of Unpsychology Magazine, here the poem I worte for it:
Rewilding for new vitality
Who am I?
Wandering in thought all day,
yet not in nature.
Wondering about
life-ing, meaning and doing
with purpose – or not.
Paradox abounds.
What's the point of all this thought?
Million points or none.
Love asks no "so what?"
It is the wrong question asked.
But letting go is hard.
Where to go from here?
Rewild or a fresh start?
Build a new life.
Release and rebuild
or tend vitality?
So shifts can happen.
What is possible?
Possible to say and do?
Let that wild space grow.
I hope you get a chance to enjoy more articles from the magazine.
