🧘 Year in Review 2020
2020 has been a really shitty year. But it has also taught me what I need to be happy. Just the right people around. I’m grateful I got to spend a long time with my family after 10 years. The pandemic brought things into a new perspective. Why defer living if you don’t know whether the world or you will be alive tomorrow to experience it?
Two things have stood out for me. One is the fact that if 2020 can happen, then anything can happen. Don’t take things for granted! The other being that since we got through 2020, we can get through anything.
What went well?
- I continued journaling (wrote 302 entries this year).
- Finally started focusing on health. This was a recurring area of improvement in my previous years’ reviews. Deep dived into nutrition.
- Started walking 5k steps.
- Co-organized an awesome conference! 🎉
- Read 50+ books.
- Learnt visual design and copywriting.
- Wrote a short fictional piece titled The Lawn Next Door
- Learnt Ableton
- Became a decent Ukulele player
- Got into Entrepreneur First
- Attended SaaSBooMi; got to know we have a vibrant SaaS community.
- Co-organized Product Hunt meetup
- Ran a book club for developers
- Learnt Bridge Shuffling
- Discovered Studio Ghibli movies
- Made close friends with a lot of ambitious and like-minded people
- Did my first pre-sale
- Completed a course on comedy
What didn’t go well?
- No travel!
- Couldn’t attend Sustain Summit
- Failed to build a startup at Entrepreneur First
- Applied for a position at GitHub I was passionate about but my CV got rejected
- Gave a shot at YC but didn’t get in
Learnings
- Walking for longer stretches of time is quite meditative.
- You don’t have to do everything yourself. You can very well choose to play to your strengths.
- You can’t lose weight in one day. At the same time, you can’t gain weight in one day.
- Follow-ups are important.
- Life is an RPG. The trick is to stop looking for THE goal and start enjoying side-quests! I also feel that we keep trying to classify others as NPCs and search for another player like us. This is comforting and scary at the same time.
