🪄 Dumbledore’s Army (Collaborative Learning Community)

What can sit between MOOCs and CBCs?

Something like Dumbledore’s Army - a group learning on their own with a community manager. Accountability comes from paying a small fee + having like-minded people set deadlines together. Feedback comes from peers + experts curated by the CM.

This came up while discussing the different ways people can learn things with a friend, who is professionally a backend engineer and now wants to learn web development.

We have MOOCs, which are abundant but filled with noise. Rarely do people complete them.

We now have CBCs, which are effective but still not widespread. Also could be costly.

Which made us think what other experiments / innovations can be done in this space.

We were wondering why people who want to learn the same things don’t come together in a group and start learning those things. One thing led to another and we felt this is something worth trying.

I’m calling it a CLC (collaborative learning community), something between a MOOC and a CBC. A space where a group of people comes with a mission. To learn and apply a domain. People who are running this (us) provide tools/resources to make it a success.

Think of this as accountability as a service. High-quality public content is out there, but it’s hard for most folks to do it alone. You will find a group that is similarly driven for the same goal.

Designing the curriculum would be the first assignment of the learning group, including the learning milestones. We will have an expert who would review the roadmap and provide suggestions.

I recently started playing around with Procreate and now want to master it. I could reallyyy use some accountability. Reply to this if you’d want to learn together for a month. And have fun along the way. $40 fee. 50 folks.
