🥇 Library Champion: The different ways to donate to the library 💗
Library Champion,
Many non-profit organizations have a supporting group that helps them fundraise. Libraries have what is called Friends of the Library groups that can hold special events and fundraise for their library. Our Friends of the Library group consists of dedicated and supportive library champions that have consistently supported our library in word and deed. They are responsible for accepting and managing book sale donations and then holding the book sales, the annual kayak raffle (coming soon, by the way!), maintaining the gorgeous garden outside the library, volunteering at the library, and more.

Annual membership to the Friends of the Library as well as proceeds from their fundraisers and book sales go towards the funds they can provide to the library. The Friends also accept donations, which are tax-deductible. But you may wonder what is the difference between donating to the Friends and donating to the library? Allow me to explain:
💲 Donations to the Friends go towards the library making special purchases, such as purchasing new printers, computers, making improvements to the library building, and more. If you want your donation to go towards a special purchase that may not happen right away but will have a long-term benefit to the library, a donation to the Friends is right for you.
💲 Donations to the library go towards purchasing specific books for our collection, buying mobile hotspots, funding children’s programming, or simply helping keep the lights on. If you want your donation to go to something immediate, a donation to the library is right for you.
Simply put: donations to the Friends do not go towards daily operations. Either way, you are supporting the library, but it is important to know where your donation is going and what it will do.

Not every library has a Friends group, and if they do they can often not get along with the library’s leadership. The Friends of the Juniata County Library have raised over $115,000 since 2009 - an unbelievable amount that shows how fortunate we are to have such a supportive Friends of the Library group! Book shots
Here is one book I am reading and a book that I just bought for the library’s collection.
I just finished reading The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta.
Years after “The Sudden Departure” where, without warning, millions of humans simply vanished all at the same time, we read about the people (“The Leftovers”) in a small town in New York grappling with the after effects. It’s rare, but I felt the TV show was better than the book.

One of the books I purchased that you should check out:
Influence by Sara Shephard and Lilia Buckingham
(Kids fiction, social media)
Shephard, author of the young adult series Pretty Little Liars, Influence introduces us to the glamorous—and cutthroat—world of social media influencers.
Sixteen-year-old newbie Delilah Rollins became a minor celebrity after her rescue of a puppy from a burning shed was caught on video and went viral. When she’s invited by actress Jasmine Walters-Diaz to an influencer party at a fancy Los Angeles hotel, she’s thrilled. Jasmine introduces Delilah to influencer and aspiring actress Fiona Jacobs, and Fiona’s boyfriend warns Delilah away from the blonde and supposedly toxic Scarlet Leigh. Delilah also has a meet-cute with a green-eyed guy who turns out to be none other than Scarlet’s beau, YouTube star Jack Dono. Cue the melodrama.
When someone is murdered, Delilah vows to root out the killer in their midst. Via alternating narratives, the authors divvy up a handful of serious issues among the main cast, including bullying, sexuality, and mental illness, and Shepard’s co-author, real-life teen influencer Buckingham, brings authenticity to a world defined by likes and clicks.
Bottom line: An overarching message that we should be true to oneself.
