Check it out: Juniata County Library director Vince Giordano discusses services, resources, and issues with Rep. Jonathan Hershey.
( Pictured left to right is Rep. Hershey and I yesterday (April 12th 2022.) Both of us are holding the library's popular mobile hotspots that help connect our rural community.)
Rep. Hershey visited our library back in May 2019 (link) and has continued to support libraries. We talked about a wide variety of topics, including our youth programming, collection development and community standards I consider when purchasing new materials, prices for digital books and print books, technological services we offer, and more.
Our primary focuses were on the mobile hotspots we lend out, public internet access we offer at the library and the home internet services available in our community, and library funding.
Our patrons need quality internet access to work and complete many daily tasks. Our library helps meet that demand.

A book recommendation just for you!
Beautiful by Danielle Steel (Coming April 19th) (Adult fiction: Contemporary, Romance, Family Life)
A renowned supermodel's world is torn apart in an instant, sending her on an unexpected journey of discovery. Veronique Vincent is a star. At age twenty-two, she is one of the most sought-after models in fashion, gracing the covers of magazines and walking the runways of haute couture shows across the globe. Yet, despite being the consummate professional, Veronique wants little of the glamorous life that modeling affords her. The beloved daughter of a hardworking single mother, she has always preferred spending time at home or with her kindhearted boyfriend to attending lavish parties. When a quick getaway presents a welcome break on the heels of Paris Fashion Week, and before a Vogue cover shoot in Tokyo, Veronique is thrilled, eager to escape the mayhem of her busy schedule. Then, out of nowhere, a tragic explosion at Zaventem Airport in Brussels changes her life forever.
The ruthless terrorist attack has the entire world on edge. Veronique finds herself hospitalized and alone, devastated to learn that the blast has killed both of the people she loved most. She is also forced to confront the harsh reality that she has been severely injured, her famous appearance forever altered. As she plunges into seclusion, the industry that once adored her believes her to have fallen off the map. In truth, she is struggling to find herself again after losing everything, and to discover what truly matters in life. But her mother's will, accompanied by a letter Veronique never knew existed, reveals long-held secrets, introducing her to a world she hadn't even known was possible.
As Veronique forges bonds old and new, she begins to see a light beyond the darkness she has come to inhabit, finding peace in opportunities to help others, and redefining for herself what beauty is, and what it truly means to be beautiful. Danielle Steel presents a story of one woman's breathtaking perseverance in moving beyond tragedy to a life more meaningful than she could ever have imagined.

The book sale is back!
Spread the word: our next book sale is coming up!
You can come into the book sale room and pick and choose which books you want. We provide you the bag and you can fill one (or 10 of them) for $5.
Here is the book sale schedule:
--Tuesday April 26th 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM (Preview Night for the Friends of the Library) Join the Friends of the Library and get early access before the crowds descend on the book sale Wednesday morning. The shelves are CRAMMED with books! You can join the Friends at any time! Membership to the Friends is different than having a library card; membership forms for the Friends are available on the Friends bulletin board at the library or on the library website. You can also join at the door on Tuesday night. Enter the main entrance of the library and by the green sign for the community rooms will be a table where you can check in (current Friends members) or join (new Friends members.) Once you are checked in and ready to go, you will be given a bag to fill with books and more!
We normally close at 5:00 PM on Tuesdays but we are remaining open until 7:00 PM. Even if you are not going to the book sale, enjoy the extra hours that the library will remain open!
--Wednesday, April 27th 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
--Thursday, April 28th 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM
--Friday, April 29th 9:00 PM to 5:00 PM
--Saturday, April 30th 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
As always, please spread the word to friends and relatives about the Friends of the Library, who provide wonderful support to our great library!
Book donations to the library
The Friends book sale consists of your generous donations of books, movies, and more. We accept book donations during the libraryβs regular business hours. We accept gently used books, DVDβs and music CDs. We do not accept faded/yellow/red/battered/moldy books, textbooks, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, or magazines. A general rule of thumb: if you wouldnβt give the item to someone as a gift, we wonβt accept it.
Once donated, the books become the property of the library and are evaluated in the same manner as purchased materials. Materials that are useful to the library collection are retained, and other materials are placed in the book sale or disposed of in whatever manner the library deems best. The donor is not notified about the final disposition of the book. The library cannot guarantee or ensure that donated items will be added to the library collection.
