Now that we are in September, we celebrate National Library Card Sign-up Month!
Library cards empower students, fuel academic success, and strengthen communities. There is nothing more empowering than signing up for your own library card. Through access to technology, media resources and educational programs, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions. Signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.
The Juniata County Library, along with libraries everywhere, continue to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of our community. To sign up for a library card or renew your existing library card, please visit https://www.juniatalibrary.org/using-library/get-a-library-card
This year, Marley Dias, founder of #1000BlackGirlBooks, author and executive producer, is taking on a new role as honorary chair of Library Card Sign-Up Month. In her new role, Dias will promote the value of libraries and encourage everyone to get their very own library card.
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries work together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.
Since 1966 the Juniata County Library has offered free services and opportunities enabling all members of our diverse community to explore ideas, the power of information, and the joy of reading. The Library has a special mission to young children and their caregivers to encourage a love of reading and learning.

Here are some new books that we think you should check out!
Explore the United States (Big Buddy Books) - all 50 U.S. states + Washington DC and Puerto Rico
We purchased a brand-new set of kid's books for the 50 U.S. states + Washington DC and Puerto Rico! Our previous set was from 10 years ago, so we were due for an upgrade as our country continues to grow and change.
Teachers will find this fact-packed series invaluable to teaching their students about America. Easy-to-read text and oversized photos showcase the nation's beauty and diversity. Readers will learn about history, cities, land features, animals, industries, sports, famous people, and more! A Tour Book spread highlights kid-friendly things to do in each state. Other features include a table of contents, fact boxes, a timeline, maps, a facts page with vital information, a glossary, and an index. Aligned to Common Core Standards and correlated to state standards.
