π₯ Library Champion: Does the library even need my donation? π€
Library Champion,
Pause for a moment and ask yourself: where does the library get it's money from? Write down what comes to mind.
Was overdue fines and fees one of them? For many of us that is where we think money for the library comes from. I'm not sure how that idea became a thing, but it's not a major source of income for our library. It usually accounts for less than $6,000 out of our quarter of a million dollar operating budget.
So where does the other $220,000-ish come from?
Over 75% of our budget comes from the government. $90,000 comes from our local government in 4 quarterly allotments and $70,000 comes from the state government in a one-time allotment every January.
Our county commissioners have been incredibly supportive of our library year after year. We are extremely fortunate to have their support and an overall great relationship with them. Many other counties do not have this luxory.
The third largest amount of funding comes from donations from supporters like you, usually in the range of $20-25k.
Why am I telling you all this? Because your donation keeps us going. We couldn't do all of this without great people like you.

Book shots
Here is one book I am reading and a book that I just bought for the libraryβs collection.
A Promised Land by Barack Obama
(Adult nonfiction, memoir)
I need a break from fiction. The last two books I read were great works of fiction, but I like swinging back and forth between fiction and nonfiction so to challenge my mind and broaden my reading horizons. I received two copies of A Promised Land for Christmas and have been looking forward to reading what is expected to be part 1 of his 2 part memoir series.

One of the books I purchased that you should check out:
Animal Instinct: A K Team Novel by David Rosenfelt
(Adult fiction, mystery with animals)
To get you ready for our summer reading program themed Tails and Tales, here is the latest book in Rosenfelt's K Team novel series.
