Internet when you need it: Mobile Hotspots at the Library
Library Champion,
We were once told that the best thing we offer is our mobile hotspots. They are small devices the size of your hand that when turned on gives you Wi-Fi. In today's day and age where internet is expensive and often lacking in quality, the library lets you have the internet when and where you need it. A one-time donation of only $150 gets in the hands of someone in your community one of these devices.
We have been offering these devices for over three and a half years, so it isn't a new fad that will be sitting around and unused in the near future. We have over a dozen of them and they are always in use. That says that they meet a direct need in our community. Your gift to the library will have an immediate impact, not tomorrow, but today!
In the past year we started lending out Chromebooks. They are simple-to-use laptops that are powerful in their capabilities. Many people can only access the internet on the small screen of their phone, leaving them to scrunch and scroll when they are on a website. This makes applying for jobs and accessing important documents difficult. A Chromebook gives them full-scren access and fully enables them to participate in our high-tech world. A one-time donation of only $150 gets in the hands of someone in your community one of these devices.
Bottom line: it isn't easy or cheap to participate in our digital world. Quality devices are hard to find and often expensive. Internet in rural areas often lags behind the speeds available in cities. But the library has a solution: Wi-Fi hotspots and Chromebooks for loan. With so much of our world now virtual due to the pandemic, you can ensure our community can contribute and connect to the larger world. Your gift today will make that happen right now.
Here is one book I am reading and one book I will be buying soon for the library.
--The Stranger by Harlan Coben: I loved the Netflix adaptation of this story and am really enjoying the book.
--Disloyal: A Memoir: The True Story of the Former Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump by Michael Cohen: Our book vendor in Chambersburg has pre-ordered over 12,000 copies of this book, so I think it will be popular.
Our card catalog is now available 24/7 online. Click here to find your next great read.
Is your library card current? If not, click here to see. It's one of the most powerful things you can have.
Your library misses you. We wish you and your family health and wellbeing during these (and all) times.
Vince
P.S.- You don't need to make an account or jump through any hoops to be a library champion. I wouldn't say this if it wasn't true. You can make this happen in less than a minute. Just click here.
