renew review

I’m on Spring Break this week, so I solemnly swear not to complain or speak flippantly about time, stress, or exhaustion to anybody who is out there working and pushing through their lives this week. I mentioned it back in December when I was on Winter Break, but I will NEVER take this benefit of working in schools for granted. Like Lil Nas X, we’ve sold our souls to the devil and the terms of that agreement include regular breaks. I bear the hardships happily just to enjoy this benefit.

Okay, enough dramatics. I’m just feeling ready to reset, reconnect, and, dare I say, renew (I apologize, I’m on a Real Housewives of New York jag for the first time ever (yes, ten years too late) and I’m finding that everything connects back to RHONY the way my dad lives a life of one degree of Seinfeld).

I finally got a chance to see my therapist this past week after an accidental month and a half hiatus (full of stress and dwindling motivation) and I was able to hone in on the things I want to rejuvenate, renew, reset, reconnect, refresh (all the “re”s) this week while I’m off from work.

Sometimes I feel a sense of anxiety about “using my break well,” which is, of course, a silly vicious cycle that leads to inertia. Instead, I’m using this break to go for walks, cook for fun, read multiple books, write, sit in the sun with my pups, skate and dance, sew and knit, paint and doodle, and catch up on some to-dos that will make me feel productive.

Will I still want to veg? Yes. Will I still feel guilty for doing so? Only until I remind myself that my body and brain are taking the breaks they need. Allrighty, I’m off to go mail my friends some goodies. Enjoy your week, friend.

prompt #35:

What can you refresh (renew!) in your life this week? What is an area you’ve been meaning to reconnect with? Spirituality? Mental health? Physical health? Social health? Community health? Intellectual health?

What have you been meaning to do, but keep putting off? Where can you take one small, actionable step? Take five minutes to reflect on these questions and see where the writing takes you
