Doujin event on 2/16 + our work on Terranova
Whew! This month has gone by fast, hasn’t it?
I'm trying to keep everyone more in the loop about what mabbees and I are doing as Studio Terranova.
This year's update is a bit late because...
We organized our fifth Global Game Jam this year at Let's Games! Tokyo!

Global Game Jam is the world’s largest video game hackathon. I started doing GGJ in 2013 with some friends, and organized my first site in 2020 with the help of Code Chrysalis. Our site is English/Japanese bilingual, and our goal is to inspire folks to realize anyone can make a game. It doesn’t have to be AAA to be fun.
In fact, the weirder, the better.

We welcome first-timers, artists, musicians and creative coders.
Here’s the after-report, where you can see photos and more of the site.
If you’re in Japan, we’d love for you to join us next year.
We’re coming to COMITIA151!
🙇 Studio Terranova will be at COMITIA151! 📍 TOKYO BIG SIGHT, East Hall 1, 2, and 3. (East Hall 2, く40a) ⏰ 2/16 (Sun), 11:00~16:00 https://comitia.co.jp/html/151.html

I love the zine/doujin game scene so I'm extra-proud that this is our first COMITIA.
We’ll be at TOKYO BIG SIGHT, East Hall 2, Booth く40a.
We’re planning on selling…
Screen-printed USB sticks with the Terranova game
Terranova folders for your fanfic!
Limited-quantity postcards of Eytan, Dominique, Isaiah and Hikaru
Anything that doesn’t sell I’m planning on putting on our Ko-Fi shop.

Our future work on Terranova
I mentioned in a previous update that we had three new languages for Terranova in the works, namely:
Brazilian Portuguese (releasing this year)
Russian (releasing this year)
Japanese (releasing 2026)
These were all requested by our fans. We hope that folks will enjoy the story in multiple languages.

Terranova was our first game, and our namesake; it means a lot to us when folks tell us they want new features like a music player or new updates because they want more. That’s a huge compliment to us.
Right after Terranova was released, we tried making a music player. We had the designs and ended up scrapping it. Terranova’s code integrations (especially integrations in Steam) are fragile, and touching it can cause a host of cascading bugs.
Since it’s a “bespoke” system, only mabbees can fix it. He relied on reviving ~5-years old threads in Substack and prayer for some of the major integrations, like Steam achievements.
Because of the amount of effort it took to make small updates, mabbees was reluctant on touching the code again after our November 2022 bugfix, which was totally understandable.
All of this to say is that after we release these three languages, this will be the last work we do on Terranova.
We’ll be moving on to finishing Tomodachi 8-in-1 and then, The Frontier. We learned our lesson; both engines we’re using have a community associated with it that can help us if any issues come up—and over the past few years I’ve been getting my hands dirty with PICO-8 and Ren’Py projects, so I can act not only as a designer and artist, but as a programmer, freeing mabbees to pursue writing and music.
If you came to us through our work on Terranova—thank you so much for your support.
We hope that you’ll appreciate and love our new games as well.

See you at COMITIA, and if you can’t make it, we’ll see you on Discord. <3
