New nightmare son just dropped
Our new nightmare son1 is here, and he’s perfect.
The stroke is so pretty, that’s it’s beyond me to even put into words. It’s the slightest flick, raised up high. There’s no dip. This thing is league-ready, now. The net hardly moves. A tip that pros always say about shooting is to “shoot up,” which is not necessarily something everyone can do, but this ball scrapes the sky.
Though he’s still figuring out things on the perimeter—this was their first real game—and there were a few chemistry hiccups, I was surprised and impressed how Gradey didn’t force the issue, and seemed to look for others first.
He found his stuff within the offense. That is dangerous if you’ve scheduled KU this year. We’re concerned about perimeter spacing as we get into an Ochai Agbaji-less present, and this lad might have fallen into our lap and sucked up all the gravity on the perimeter.
Yes, I’m excited, and effectively out of blogging breath. But what Dick has showed so far could be what unlocks KU’s offense, which we’ve been tense about all offseason. Remember how Josh Jackson floated all over, facilitated and made every play? Dick could be that kind of swingman for KU. Prettay, prettay good.
Speaking of bad offense, I need more of the Udeh/Adams Smashball, offensive flow be damned! Sometimes you have to undermine your whole point when KJ Adams is involved.
Anyway, it is time. Embrace our terrible son.
Now go vote!
For those of you who are less online (I am jealous of you), there’s an internet-y joke about “my horrible sons” which has been modded into “my large adult son” and other sorts of like-minded phrasing. Gradey Dick seems like a nice young man. But he is also a terror!
