Don't Miss These All-Decade @KUHoops Posts
Something I’ve noticed during the social media era: digital content teams covering college basketball are often far more polished than their pro counterparts. Some of this stands to logic. For one, a social media team at a big university has an endlessly refreshing supply of talent, all armed with ideas that make for engaging contemporary social posts. There’s less pressure to hit viewership benchmarks, I’d guess, and the idea economy is much more free-flowing.
Even if pro franchises poach these students when they graduate, those employees are only getting older and further away from the pulse of youth-driven media. (That’s what I love about college social media users: We get older, and they stay the same age. I’m sorry, reader). Also, these posts are covered in a focus-grouped sheen that is much more corporate than the posts they came up on, and nothing corporate and belabored upon has ever been cool. Advantage: college.
If you’re even casually active online, you’ve probably noticed a ton of “end of decade” posts, lists and countdowns. It’s a hook that people like, so a content team is behooved to cook up some media with that angle. Many of these posts are phoned in, or rely on surface-level visual stimuli. It can be fun, but ultimately forgettable—it’s content for the sake of having content.
