At least there's content
Dark times, Jayhawk fans. While a conference call yesterday with Bill Self delivered a number of zingers, sadness has set in. This is probably the most promising Kansas team in a decade, and we won’t get to see if it amounted to a championship season. There’s a void there that will never be filled, although I’m team “lean the hell into it” when it comes to commemorating 2020.
However, unexpected silver linings abound. Pros and college players, who are typically busy at this time of year, are now very bored. But, that unstructured free time has given our favorite dudes some time to hone their content crafting capacities. A call from Brooklyn Net “tech guy with a jumper” Spencer Dinwiddie—who dared peers to go back and narrate their own highlights—was heeded, and then some. And thankfully, that included Devonté diving into some KU footage:
“Electric” is an understatement.
Through crimson and blue-tinted Warby Parkers, I’ve also been impressed by the sports networks’ curation of old games, since there no new ones to air. (I’m genuinely thankful for the out-of-touch NFL, whose offseason has motored along as if nothing happened and already includes four or five bizarre transactions). The KU-OU 3OT classic aired last night on ESPN2, and before that some choice Big 12 tournament games got a little play on ESPNU. More stuff like that is coming, because like I said, there literally isn’t anything else. You gotta take the small victories, especially when it’s basically illegal to go outside.
While the NCAA discontinued “the Vault” a few years ago, they uploaded a lot to YouTube, so many of your favorite Jayhawk tourney moments (and a lot of your least favorite ones) still live on. A few selections, for those in need:
I’ll keep adding to that list. Take care of yourself out there.
