The Room Is Getting Smaller. On Purpose.

A quick note to the folks who've been reading for a few years now.

You may have noticed the writing's changed. It's gotten slower. Less about tactics, more about the things underneath them. I wanted to tell you that's not an accident, and it's not a phase. It's a choice, and I'd rather you hear it from me than wonder.

For a long time I wrote for the room to get bigger. More readers, more reach, more of everything. Somewhere in the last couple of years that stopped being what I wanted. I found I cared less about being read widely and more about being read well, by the handful of people actually carrying the weight I write about. Founders. Owners. Leaders of leaders. The ones up at night with something real on their shoulders.

So I'm pointing the writing there. Going deeper, narrower, quieter.

Nothing changes about how often this lands in your inbox - same rhythm, same me. The writing just goes further down. Some of it will land for you. Some of it won't, and that's alright. I'd rather write one thing that matters to a few than a hundred things that skim past everybody.

If that's the room you're in, I'm glad you're here. Pull up a chair. It's going to get more honest from here, not less.

And if this isn't where you came for, no hard feelings at all. Thank you for the years of reading. That means the world to me, even as the room gets smaller.

Grateful,
Steve
