List: 19 truths from the past 19 years of coaching.
The first company I ever started, I named, Orbiting Normal. It was a little wink at the fact that all of us are a little bit off.
True story.
Back then, I had no idea where this whole coaching thing was going to take me.
At that time, it was just a side-hustle - early mornings, nights, and weekends spent reading, reflecting, studying, serving, learning, failing, starting over again.
A handful of books, two advanced degrees, dozens of trips around the planet, and thousands of coaching conversations later my little consulting practice evolved into the Knox Consulting Group.
I bring all this up to share a few lessons from my journey so far.
Yep.
Another little list for you to reflect on and journal through if you’d like…
1. It’s impossible to “fix” anyone; the best we can do is to help them help themselves.
2. Trying to change others is a fool's errand.
3. We can't force someone to prioritize themselves.
4. Listening is the key to coaching.
5. People aren't problems to solved, they are souls to be loved.
6. The answers to our prayers lie within.
7. Every person we encounter has something to teach us.
8. Change is challenging, but not impossible.
9. Our thoughts shape our reality and determine our future.
10. We attract who we are.
11. The first person we lead is ourselves.
12. Our intuition is more powerful (and important) than our IQ.
13. Paying attention is often the most crucial step.
14. Suffering is a gift in disguise.
15. Letting go of the past is therapy; creating a better future is coaching.
16. Confidence is a byproduct of taking risks.
17. Failure's just a chisel that refines us.
18. Authenticity is rare, but it's worth it in the end.
19. We’re never stuck, we just need a better guide.
I don’t know where you’re at, or what you’re going through, but I do know the life-changing magic of partnering with someone to help you hear and see yourself more clearly so you can live life with greater purpose and have a more intentional impact.
If that’s something you’re interested in, then we should talk. It’s definitely a conversation worth having.
