New Newsletter and a New Platform

Recent events, upcoming events, media I've enjoyed, and dog photos.

Hi all! If you’ve been a subscriber for a while, you might have noticed that my newsletters have moved to Buttondown! This is very exciting, at least to me. It’s been a while since my last newsletter, (which probably comes as a surprise to no one), so here’s my August update!

I recently did an event at Dragonfly Books in Decorah, Iowa, with fellow author Caitlyn Battelle. If you’re into fantasy, (and I assume you are because you’re here) I HIGHLY recommend Caitlyn’s book, Undead Gods. It’s like if the story of Persephone was set in the Peaky Blinders universe and I’m obsessed. Now is the time to check it out, because book 2 is on the horizon.

The event was so fun, and we had some great questions about what goes in to writing a book and and creating characters. It was a nice weekend in a beautiful town, and I couldn’t ask for more.

Speaking of events, we are exactly one month out from Booked Eau Claire! If you’re in the midwest, be sure to check out this women and LGBTQIA+ focused event in Eau Claire, WI, Sept. 12 & 13.

I will also be participating in the Twin Cities Book Festival November 7th in St. Paul! This is their 25th year, so expect the event to be bigger and better than ever.

Other Stuff:

Finished reading: The Bachelorette Party by Camilla Sten

Current read: The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones

New movie I enjoyed: I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)

Other: I get together with some friends each month to watch The Last Drive In with Joe Bob Briggs. This month’s movies were Piranha (1978) and Crocodile (1979). Both are amazingly cheesy.

I’ve also been loving the podcast Good Morning Evildoers. It’s essentially the morning announcements at an evil lair, and it’s hilarious and surprisingly heartfelt. They end most episodes with a reminder to “go out there and be your worst self today”, which I love.

Thanks for following along. I have some new projects I’m working on and will be sharing a few exciting updates soon, so please stick around. I hope everyone has had a fantastic summer and read a lot of great books.

And now, the one, the ONLY, the MAJESTIC… ODIN!

Yes, this is how he sleeps all the time. I’ve given up trying to understand this dog.
