Christmas Greetings

Welcome to the Christmas issue of Editing Tips!
Because this is a busy time of year for many of us, I will keep this month’s newsletter short.
Editing Tip
Be sensitive to your audience’s unique situation.
For example, when writing to a sponsored child, it’s recommended that sponsors don’t include what we might consider commonplace (i.e., travel).
But even those who are from the same culture may not experience life as we do.
Tip for Fiction Writers
If you haven’t decided what genre to write in or are considering branching out, consider reading a wide variety of genres to see what sparks your interest.
Tip for Nonfiction Writers
It’s important to find the balance between overexplaining a concept and underexplaining it. This is one area in which beta readers from your target audience can offer insights.
Tip for Memoir Writers
In most cases, memoir readers want to connect with the author and see how the life lessons that are included apply to their own lives.
Deep Point of View Basics
Remember to ask yourself, “Would my POV character think about this in this way and express it as I have?”
Book Recommendations
Because of Bethlehem by Max Lucado (a seasonal devotional)
Gazing at God by Sharon Hodde Miller (a book that explores the benefits of not being self-focused, a follow-up to Free of Me)
The Plan by Kendra Adachi (a great read as you prep for 2026)
Trail of Mountain Secrets by Darlene L. Turner (a Love Inspired Suspense novel)
Shadowcast by Crystal D. Grant (a unique fantasy novel, the first in the trilogy)
May your Christmas and New Year overflow with abundant blessings!
