Steeven Says Stuff #1: Welcome!
Thank you for subscribing to Steeven Says Stuff, the newsletter dedicated to providing you with all the updates about me: Steeven R. Orr.
I am a podcaster.
I co-host The Superman Super Show with Ed Moore and I host Hither Came Conan, Growing Up Geek, The Comic Book Show, and so many more.
I’m also a husband, a father, a recluse, a writer, a neurodivergent, an introvert, a nerd, an expert at hyperbolization, a Professional Snake Milker*, and so, so, so much more!
Hi! How’s it going?
This week’s newsletter starts now!
THE INTRODUCTION BIT
Howdy, folks and welcome to the very first newsletter from Steeven Says Stuff, which is, of course, the newsletter of me, Steeven R. Orr, and the single greatest consumer of commas in the whole entire internet.
(There were a number of commas in that previous paragraph. Six of them, to be exact - Hey, this will be fun! The first 10 people to respond to this email with an accurate count of just how many actual commas appear throughout this email will have their names/email addresses placed into a hat, or a box, possibly a bucket. The receptacle doesn’t matter. What matters is that once those names/email addresses are placed into said receptacle, there they will sit until I am able to provide some sort of prize - I’m thinking stickers. Anyway, back to the newsletter!)
Now, I’m gonna try and keep this first newsletter brief, but I wanted to make sure and let folks know that my current mailing list, the list of emails I have for the sending of this newsletter, well I got all of that from the various newsletter platforms I’ve used in the past: MailChimp, Patreon, and Substack.
In other words, if you got this email then at some point over the last decade or so, you signed up to receive updates from me to your inbox.
But don’t worry. If you don’t want to get any emails from me, there’s an unsubscribe link here in this very email that will allow you to unsubscribe as painlessly as possible.
If you’re still with me after that, you will notice that you are receiving this email on a Tuesday.
Why Tuesday?
Honestly, I did a Google search for “best day of the week to send my newsletter” and was immediately met with the following information:
While Tuesdays and Thursdays have slightly higher engagement rates, Wednesday is a solid second option. If you send emails twice a week within these days, however, make sure to pick a combination of Tuesdays and Thursdays.
So, yeah… Tuesday it is.
THE MAIN BIT
Okay, so now that we’ve established which day this email will go out each week (hopefully each week… I mean, I’ll do my best), we now need to establish how the email will look.
Personally, I’m a big fan of separating these emails into different sections, and I’m an even bigger fan of labeling those sections as “bits”.
With that in mind, your six basic sections, or “bits” that should always be present in your Steeven Says Stuff Newsletter are as follows.
THE INTRODUCTION BIT: This should be rather self explanatory, but just in case, this section will be a brief introduction to that week’s newsletter and may contain vague teases in regard to what you are about to read.
THE MAIN BIT: Each week I will try to have a main topic, which will usually focus on what I’m working on, you know, in the podcasting game, but then again, it might not.
THE PODCAST OF THE WEEK BIT: Wherein I give you a podcast recommendation each week.
THE RELEASE SCHEDULE BIT: Wherein I list out which podcast episodes are complete and when they are being released.
THE WORKING ON BIT: Wherein I list out which podcast episodes are currently in process and what their status might be.
THE ENDING BIT: No explanation necessary.
So there you have it, those are the six standard bits that make up the Steeven Says Stuff Newsletter.
Keep in mind that new bits may be added and removed as I see fit, but in essence, that’s what you can expect.
With that said, let’s keep moving forward with today’s email.
THE PODCAST OF THE WEEK BIT
Corruption Uncovered (True Crime)
Some say he met them through his job. Some say he came to their houses, or offered them a ride home. According to dozens of women, Roger Golubski, a detective with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, raped, assaulted and stalked them. After decades of secrecy and fear, he was scheduled to face trial in Federal Court, charged with assault, rape and kidnapping. And accused of much more. But Golubski’s trial never began.
On Corruption Uncovered, we share stories of the women, the police department and the community; and we grapple with the questions left in the wake of his death. How could someone prey on so many people without consequence? Who else knew? How, if at all, can people be made whole? And what happens now?
Hosted by Josie Duffy Rice. From Roc Nation and its philanthropic and justice division, Team Roc. Produced by Pineapple Street Studios.
I am three episodes into this eight episode series and I am disturbed, disgusted, and full of rage.
In other words, so far, this is an excellent show.
Plus, this all took place just 45 minutes from where I am now and, while I remember hearing about this case, the only memory I have is that this guy, this cop, this piece of garbage killed himself on the first day that his trial was to begin:
A white former Kansas City, Kansas, police detective was found dead Monday of an apparent suicide on the day his federal civil rights trial was set to begin for allegedly sexually abusing Black women over decades, authorities said. - https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/roger-golubski-found-dead-rcna182455
Turns out, of course, that there was an entire department full of fellow officers that knew what Roger Golubski was doing and they chose to stay silent. That’s where the podcast seems to be shifting to now.
This is one I highly recommend.

* A Professional Snake Milker is responsible for safely extracting venom from snakes for use in research, antivenom production, and pharmaceutical development. This role requires expert handling of venomous snakes in controlled environments, strict adherence to safety protocols, and meticulous record-keeping.
Snake milkers typically work in laboratories, research facilities, or snake farms. The role may involve exposure to outdoor or variable conditions and requires strict compliance with safety protocols and animal welfare regulations.
While I have never, in my life, milked a snake, I often wonder if there is such a thing as snake cheese.
