THE “LET’S GET TO IT” BIT

Hey, folks!

I have nothing much to say except…

Well, a couple of the podcasts are falling behind again.

I’ll be posting the schedule for July below, but The Superman Super Show and The Comic Book Super Show will remain on schedule while Hither Came Conan and Another G.I. Joe Podcast will be late.

I know I posted something the other day over on the Instagram that said that the Episode 64 of Hither Came Conan would land on July the 6th, which was last Monday, but it didn’t.

I don’t want to give you a lot of excuses, but life is doing that thing right now where it’s causing daily activities to be more than difficult to accomplish for me and currently I have not recorded Episode 64 of Hither Came Conan, nor have I yet recorded Episode 5 of Another G.I. Joe Podcast.

So, going forward, I will not add any episodes to any kind of publicly available schedule until the episode(s) have been recorded.

With that said, let's get to it.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION: THE SUPERMAN WARS!

I recently read The Superman Wars: A Battle for Truth, Justice, and an American Icon by William Bernhardt and it was an amazing book.

From the back of the book:

Almost everyone knows about the man from Krypton who, disguised as mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent working with the fearless Lois Lane, fights for the vulnerable and the oppressed. But few know the truth about this indelible character’s creation. From mobster tactics to decades-long courtroom drama, a beloved American myth was born, betrayed, and eventually reclaimed—almost eighty years after the character first appeared.

New witnesses, unpublished manuscripts, personal letters, and more reveal the complex and dramatic history of Superman and his creator, Jerry Siegel. This is a David and Goliath clash with twists, turns, and devastating upheavals. An underdog tale of a creator who fought for his rights and finally found redemption in his battle for truth, justice, and the American Way. A story that has never been fully told…

Until now.

If you haven’t read this one yet, I suggest you jump on it now.

Here’s just a bit from the press release:

For generations, Superman has stood as a symbol of hope, morality, and idealism. Yet few readers know the true story behind his creation or the devastating cost paid by his original creators. In “The Superman Wars,” Bernhardt pulls back the curtain on the legal, cultural, and ethical conflicts that shaped the Man of Steel and forever changed the comics industry.

“Most people think they know the backstory of Superman. They don’t,” says Bernhardt.

Rather than retelling a well-known pop culture narrative, Bernhardt reframes Superman as history. He traces the character’s creation to two young men, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, whose work helped define an industry while leaving them financially and creatively vulnerable. Their experience became one of the earliest and most influential examples of creators losing control of their intellectual property to powerful corporations.
