thinking abt covid time dilation

howdy!

seems like the time’s come and gone.

…i can’t bring myself to look at the site yet.

anyway, let’s not talk about that now, and talk about something happier: THE PANDEMIC!!! YAAY!!!

it seems to be a very common sentiment for people to feel like time’s been going much faster ever since the pandemic started, or just having much less of a sense of time passing in general. and i wondered if this specific thing has ever been like, researched or looked into or whatever. is “covid time dilation” a specific phenomenon? did they ever make a wikipedia page for it?

i couldn’t find a wikipedia page yet, but i did find some articles talking about it when things were more severe. but i’m talking about, like, even now. maybe it’s just cuz i don’t get out much personally, but everyone around me that i’ve asked still seems to feel it very prominently.

just the other day i saw a meme that had thousands of likes about realizing it’s going to be 2025 in a few months even though you still haven’t processed 2019, which is half a decade ago. so sentiments like this still seem to be common enough to be broadly understood, and for the average person to find relatability and humor in. like it’s just permanently fucked up all our internal clocks. i would HOPE that’s not the case??? is anybody researching THAT???

i would imagine part of it is a lot of people experiencing it are just starting to come of age in a world with covid (which, wow, us gen Z really have it rough), but it feels a lot more pronounced than your average sense of time going faster as you get older. maybe it’s a compound thing and the covid time dilation is just exacerbating it?

anyway, what do you all think? have any unique insights on this with your own experiences? feel free to send a reply!
