Reflection #60 Commitment to Ourselves

The Gap Year: Reflection #60 Commitment to Ourselves
Commitment to ourselves is important. To make our commitment we can ask ourselves, “what is the most meaningful use of this time in my life?”… And, then, to answer this question with wisdom and honesty. Sitting with our own thoughts and memoires and feelings can be painful. It demands courage along with honesty and tender compassion. There may be times of feeling vulnerable and scared. This is part of the healing process.
Truth is, we’ve learned some hard lessons in our lifetime, and we certainly don’t want to repeat them. We don’t want to suffer with these memoires forever. Part of the groundwork for this time in our lives involves a measure of pondering our life experiences and to draw from them some wisdom for the road ahead. We will also strive to relinquish our attachment to our stories of hurt and disappointment. This is not easy and may be the hardest part of our healing.
Now it’s your turn.
Take time to reflect and, if in a group, share as you feel able.
As I make a commitment to myself I:
a. consider what is the most meaningful use of my time.
b. employ honesty along with tender compassion.
c. draw from my experiences for the road ahead.
d. let go of my stories of hurt and disappointment.
