Reflection #44 Epiphany!
Part of the terror is to take back our listening, to use our own voice, to see our own light.” ― Hildegard of Bingen
Again this year, as always, the observance of Epiphany on January 6 of the new year is here. But it is different this year. And I’ve had an actual epiphany! To have an epiphany is to experience a moment when one suddenly feels they understand and becomes conscious of something very important.
Retirement has allowed me to rethink almost everything from where I live to what I do with my time and how I work. Now I organize my ordinary days for times of studying the current happenings of the day within my community, country, and the world to better know how to give my time and energy. I spend hours reading and writing, helping others where I can, and playing with my grandchildren among other things. There are still days when I feel driven and think I need to accomplish something great. But these glimmers of progress toward a new way of thinking and being are encouraging.
In this gap year let’s center down on what is important to us and designate this time as the opportunity to make a new and improved life. As you think about this new season of life and what you want your life to look like, strive to take time to reflect on who you are and what gives meaning beyond what you do. Think about how to nurture who you are beyond what you do.
Remember that you have only one soul; that you have only one death to die; and that you have only one life to live. If you do this “remembering”, there will be many things about which you care nothing. Let’s center down on what is important to us.
Now it’s your turn.
Take time to reflect and, if in a group, share as you feel able.
I’m finding that I am:
a) taking the opportunity to rethink almost everything.
b) centering down on what is important to me.
c) reflecting on who I am and what gives meaning beyond what I do.
d) realizing that there will be many things about which I care nothing.
