Reflection #34 — A New Year
New years keeps arriving
with beginnings and endings
never dreamed, never rehearsed.

Some step into a New Year
with great excitement,
hope-filled resolutions,

Others tiptoe quietly,
fingers crossed,
asking only for a year
that simply isn’t terrible.

Most years,
I teter somewhere between—
hopeful, cautious, awake.
practicing anticipation.

This year, I’ll attend—
to life in this moment,
to expect one small good each day—

a flurry of snow,
a shared smile,
a breath that feels like grace.

I’ll look for it.
and when I meet a friend,
I will ask:
“What delighted you today?”
