Reflection #16 People in My Life

Through the seasons of my life
people have drifted in,
walked alongside me,
and sometimes drifted away.

I carry two lists in my heart—
one shimmering with joy,
the names of those who lift my spirit,
who make me laugh,
who share their presence
as a precious gift.

We are witnesses to one another’s story,
keepers of each other’s light.

The other list,
holds the names of those
whose company dims my day,
whose words or ways
drain the joy from life.

I do not judge,
but I choose the distance
that protects my peace.

Life is short,
and love is the measure.
I choose to give my time,
my energy, my laughter,
to those who bring color to my days
and to whose lives
I can add the same bright hue.
