Reflection # 43 A New Year
What beautiful thing did I see today that made me smile? I looked out my living room window at the small amount if snow left over from our recent storm. What did I see? A beautiful bright red cardinal sitting on our bird feeder enjoying the sunflower seeds we put in the feeder yesterday.
When our son died suddenly we were heartbroken. As we left after his service we were greeted by several cardinals sitting in a tree next to our car reminding me of God's love.
When I saw the cardinal today my heart felt his presence. My goal of the new year is to find Joy as often as possible. J. _______________
Hi Tricia, This is another one that hits home. I am a firm believer that miracles happen every day - you just have to realize that sometimes they are in the everyday things we take for granted. I like your approach of anticipation, not only so we can be actively looking for those miracles, but think of the joy that comes with that anticipation! What a great way to travel through each day! This reminds me of a couple of quotes that I'd like to share with you. I don't know who the authors are, but want to credit their words...The first, from Deun Ivory:"Part of your purpose is enjoying the now. Realizing just how blessed you are. Soaking in all the beauty surrounding you. At one time, your now was the future you always dreamed of having. Be grateful. Gratitude attracts even more beauty." And, from Nanea Hoffman: "May you discover at least one good thing in every day, even if you have to put on your glasses and squint. May you carry hope in your pocket, courage in your heart, and love in both hands."
Thanks always for sharing your musings. I truly enjoy them! Blessings, —D
Reflection # 44 Epiphany
I was quite busy at the beginning of my retirement. But it was my husband’s illness and me as his caregiver that forced me to step back. I believe I am now, not just in a time of reflection, but also with a new way of looking at things. I find, if I stay open and not engage in a particular agenda, that my devotional-journalling time is more mysterious, foretelling and compelling. Being open I have been led to learnings that I never thought of before. Where this will lead me, only time will tell. Maybe it is my prep for heavenly things?
“…reflecting on who I am and what gives meaning beyond what I do” I totally agree.Finding the me in me, understanding the decisions I made good and bad, and the whys enhances my being. And what I do is not as meaningful as who I am. Because in centering that I aspect, I do more meaningful activities and realize the why in them. For instance—going all out in my Christmas decorations brought more light into the home, expressed peace and joy, and alleviated the darkness in my husband’s and my life, as well. All in a time I didn’t want to do it. I dread taking them down and bring back weariness. So we decided to leave some lights up to keep the light in our physical life going. We know Jesus is ‘the light of the world’ so we dwell on that message as our home is brighter! —C
