A developers guide to getting started with content marketing
Hello,
Without being born a marketer, I've spent most of 2019 learning more about marketing. My reasons are simple: without marketing I can't make any projects work. It's kind of a "meta skill" as an indie hacker building side-projects. I guess you've probably heard the buzz word "content marketing" before. As I don't want to fill Google or Facebook's pockets with more money, that's what I've focused on. Without being a professional marketer I would describe content marketing with this formula:
content marketing = blogging + research of topics & keywords + minor technical analysis + talking to people.
To break it down a bit more:
-
Blogging: Regular writing and publishing of articles
-
Topic & keywords: Without topics you won't have much to write about. Finding topics and angles which are of interest to potential readers is of course important.
-
Minor Technical analysis: It pays off to use tools such as browser extensions or web-tools to find simple information such as "Is this a dofollow link or not?"
-
Talking to people: Building relationships is important if you want to have your content published anywhere else than your own blog.
In my endless quest to share information and help others, I've written down my approach to learning online marketing as a developer in detail. I'd be very happy if you'd give it a few minutes of your time and send me some feedback (just reply to this email). Thanks in advance!
