a blog post about resurrecting a dream ft. journal comics from the vault

I came to comics a little late.
From the time I was five or six I’d tell people I wanted to be “an author and illustrator” when I grew up. Even though I’d never seen a comic book, I was enchanted by the alchemy of stories told in pictures and words, and knew I wanted to do something like that. So I drew and I drew and I drew. I made dozens of tiny books with paper scavenged from the recycling bin, folded in half and stapled and filled with pencil-and-marker stories. I kept my dream within arm’s reach.
It wasn’t until college that I stumbled upon webcomics — and from there, a quick leap to comic books and graphic novels. Things clicked into focus. I finally knew what specific shape I wanted my career goal to take: lots and lots of little boxes.
