New Year, Genuinely You
A New Year's Offering
Dear reader,
I hope you’re settling into a rhythm as 2026 hums by. The energy swirling in our country feels especially heavy right now as we hold Minneapolis in our hearts 💔
January often feels like the Fool tarot card— the very first of the deck, a youthful figure gleefully leaping off a cliff, seemingly blissfully unaware of the next 77 cards of spiritual portals he’ll encounter. The excitement of his adventure is palpable, his head held high with a feather in his cap.

This month brought me plenty of joyful surprises (including waking up to fresh snow on both New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! ❄️ and the Patriots going to the Super Bowl 🤯) as well as haplessly Fool-ish moments: signing up for a women’s networking event not realizing we’d be giving solopreneur pitches in front of 40+ attendees, ripping out a pernicious weed lodged within window frames and winding up in urgent care (on a snow day!) for a terrible case of poison ivy 🤦♀️
The start of a new year is a perfect time to embrace the Fool’s spirit and see what the cards have in store for you. So if you need a little nudge to indulge in some spiritual self care, set intentions, or celebrate new beginnings, I am offering 11% off 1:1 tarot readings. Enter code NEWYEAR at checkout.
Also please get in touch if you’d like to host a Galentine’s tarot pop-up! Ladies’ brunches and girls’ nights are such a fun way to gather your crew ❤️
I hope to see you soon!
Cheers, Haley Smith Kingsland
Follow me @sovereignsoulmagic! A few years ago I began marking special dates and holidays with resonant tarot cards along the astrological, Celtic, and Gregorian calendars. Scroll down to the beginning to see my early posts highlighting full moons, Imbolc (coming tomorrow!), and many versions of the Fool. I’m in the midst of migrating these posts to my website, stay tuned!
📚 STORY TO SAVOR
Homeseeking, by Karissa Chen: I’m still thinking about the magic of curling up with this new release last January. Inspired by the author’s family history with impeccable research and clear prose, the book chronicles star-crossed childhood sweethearts growing up under the Japanese occupation of Shanghai, and the separate forks their lives take in Hong Kong and Taiwan due to the Chinese Civil War. Truly one of the best books I’ve ever read!
💎 LOCAL GEM
A dear soul sister and I kicked off the new year with Sunday brunch at the Salt Marsh Winery in Greenbush. Highly recommend their Crab & Cornbread Belgian waffle and tomatillo verde cocktail! 🍹🍸
