Hello Fall 🍂
Goodbye, September
Dear reader,
Yesterday was the autumnal equinox. I’ve been squeezing every last drop of summer out of September: sunny afternoon naps in our deck garden heaven, abundant harvest dinners, and likely my last sea swim. Dahlias blooming their sacred geometry, a beach bonfire on a warm evening, the house on South Main that still harbors colorful hydrangeas along its crushed seashell driveway.
While also taking intentional little acts to welcome fall: my first pumpkin latte, spotting birds migrating south (turkey vultures and common eiders!), decorating with mini gourds, lighting scented candles as the sun sets before 7pm, knitting a sweater.

Libra is the midpoint of the astrological calendar, a time to come back to center. I’ll admit I’m not thrilled about waning daylight and an impending nor’easter— yet I do relish hunkering down in coziness once we get into it. And an adult group guitar class that kicked off tonight will be great practice harmonizing. So begins this strange threshold before the holiday season!
Cheers, Haley Smith Kingsland

📚 STORIES TO SAVOR
I just finished a trio of 2026 releases set in fictional Massachusetts towns, each with a surprise spiritual bent. Seek Immediate Shelter by Vincent Yu, who grew up in Longmeadow, is a braided story collection of AAPI characters reacting to a false missile alert in Pioneer Valley that plunges them all into somewhat near-death reckoning. The Things We Never Say by Elizabeth Strout describes psychic awakening before and after a near-death experience, seemingly on the North Shore with a September-December timeline that felt satisfying this time of year. Lastly Into the Blue by Emma Brodie, a Vineyard author, chronicles a steamy twin flame connection 🔥 Extremely creative, comedic storytelling though I wished for more open and honest conversations between the lovers. Sharing in case any of these plot lines interest you!
💎 LOCAL GEM
I’m shocked how long it’s taken me to try Brewed 143 in North Scituate! This cheerful coffee shop replaced my beloved Marylou’s a couple years ago, and its decadent fall lattes like pistachio, s’more, and whipped sea salted maple will be warm, whimsical treats this season. Open till 3pm.
