Just a brief hello and welcome to this newsletter.

These dispatches will be the main space where the progress of this project are shared, along with bits of workshop errata and some digressions into the design of pianos (and, eventually, some other instruments as well).

Look for longer-form posts quarterly, with occasional small updates between when warranted. Right now I’m writing up a summary of my approach to soundboard bracing, which borrows a lot from piano and guitar design. I think it’s one of the most interesting subjects I’ve had to wrestle with during the design of the Pianissimo.

For those who are looking for a deeper dive, in late-January I gave a talk at Luck Dragon (an art and community space) in upstate NY. In it, I delve into how this project came to be, the intentions behind it, and get into some of the details during a fun Q&A session (which begins about 15 minutes into the video).
