🤲 Understanding Open Source
Hello Hello!
"I know I did okay on today programming test.... Well ...because my teacher gave me C++" 🤣 - source: Haider Imtiaz
Today I'm bringing to you an interview with a System Architect, an article about a design principle of object-oriented programming and how you can get started with Open Source. Even if you don't want to be involved with Open Source, but you should at least know what it is about.
Interview with Wikipedia's System Architect
Sometimes students ask me how I become a web developer or a front-end developer or any number of tech related professionals. The best way is to have a role model and try to mirror what they have done.
This is interview Moriel Schottlender will give you a sneak peak at someone's career and how she got there. She works for the hugely popular Wikipedia, which I'm sure you have heard of.
This interview has a lot of takeaways, so take notes.Warning! This is not a very beginner's friendly article. It is a bit more advanced and will require some knowledge about Object Oriented Programming. Semester 1 students may not benefit that much from it.
SOLID is an acronym covering object-oriented design principal. This article does a very good job talking about the "O" from the acronym which stands for Open-Closed Principle.
If you have some understanding about OOP, this will give you a deeper perspective.Hacktoberfest - Contributing to Open Source
One of the best ways to add projects to your portfolio of work is to contribute to open-source projects. This will help you when trying to get a new or your first job in the industry.
This article talks about Hacktoberfest which is an annual event promoting contributing to open source projects.
Even if you are not interested but it would be a good idea to understand what open source is and how to potentially contribute.
My personal update:
🚗 Fender-bender: Someone hit the back of my car and now I'm wasting time going around to get it fixed. This is something that happened to me and I don't have control over (very stoic of me). I'm trying to keep my cool 🧘.
🎞️ Watched The Woman King last weekend. Intense flic. If you like action mixed with a bit of drama and history, it is a good option.
🥧 To my Canadian friends, Happy Thanksgiving! I will be celebrating a bit later today. For all my friends: I'm thankful to have you here with me!
Cheers, hasta la vista, and bye!
