🦘 Job Hopping
Hello Hello!
🤣 (thanks to Eduardo Mendonca) - source: Know Your Meme
Today I'm showcasing a great conversation about changing jobs, a course on an app that helps with API testing, and an amazing tool that has blown my mind to the current capabilities of AI!
🦘 This is an episode of the Stack Overflow podcast where they talk about why engineers are so good at job hopping — and why it can pay off to upgrade roles every year or two.
They even talk about some very provoking questions that you can ask when being interviewed for a job like: "What is your retention rate?", "Tell me about the last time you had to fire an employee". This is audacious!
📬 This is a 2 hour long course about Postman, which is a tool to help you testing APIs. Personally, I cannot see myself on my current work, not using Postman. It became an integral tool to my dev toolbelt.
I only recommend this course if you are studying web development or already working with it. It is a free course from a very competent instructor.
🖼️ This is an app that uses AI to generate images on the fly. It is NOT searching for images. It is "drawing" the images by itself. I have tested entering a sentence like "a kid climbing a tree". See what it came up with below:
It is not perfect. The faces and eyes are a bit strange, but it is very close to be good enough! You can give it a try and experiment for free.
This will not necessarily help you on your career, but maybe it will inspire you about the possibilities with AI. At the very least it can be a great ice breaker for a party.
My personal update:
🏫 University selection: I brought my older daughter to an art and design university open house on Saturday morning. Beautiful place in downtown Toronto. It is called OCAD University. Very focused on art. She loved it.
🧳 Quick trip: I was invited last minute on Saturday to go to my friends cottage. That's why you didn't see this newsletter over the weekend. It was Nov 5 and we were getting 🌡️ 21° Celsius! That was a record breaking temperature! I went with my younger daughter. We stayed overnight and had a great time with friends, eating good food and listening to great vintage vinyl.
📕 I sent the book proposal! 🤞 A correction from last week: A.K. ,who has helped me with the book proposal research, is not only my former student but a friend too. Duly noted A.K. 😜
🤒 I'm getting sick. There is a flu strain going around here. Lots of people are getting sick. I don't think it is COVID, but I will check. I will be working this week in reduced capacity.

Cheers, hasta la vista and bye!
