Fall Harvested Vegetable Starts, T-Shirts are Back, and Upcoming Summer Hours!

Summer Days at Solid Ground Gardens

Hello, hello!

I know summer just started, so a few of you may be reading this and feeling some outrage at any mention of fall right now, but did you know that for gardeners, mid July is an excellent time to get the next round of vegetable seedlings in the ground so they’ll be ready to harvest in the fall? Specifically, Brassicas will be making their summer debut on Wednesday, July 8th!

Many folks think planting season is pretty much done after June, but where we live, you can keep planting all summer long. I’ll still be growing things like lettuce, basil, dill, and cilantro seedlings until I close shop for the season, and even after Wednesday I’ll be dropping more seasonal starts from time to time, so keep your eyes peeled and check out the What’s Growing page on my website so see what’s coming out.

Another fun announcement is that I’m finally restocked with all sizes from small to 3XL for my Solid Ground Gardens t-shirts! We’re very excited about the addition of the mustard yellow tees with the purple logo, and they’re all still made with that extra soft organic cotton everyone loves <3

Finally, this is your seasonal heads up that after Sunday, July 12th, I’ll only be open two days a week! New hours will be Fridays and Saturdays, 9-4.

The last day of the season here at the nursery is tentatively set for Saturday, August 22nd, but that’s a long way into the future and a more official announcement will be made later on.

I hope everyone is staying cool and hydrated. This heat is no joke and I’ll be happy to see the other side of it come Sunday. The high temps, coupled with the fact that we’re still not out of the drought we’ve been in since late 2024, is yet another somber reminder of the impact Climate Change has on all of us. Hopefully we’ll see some more rain soon!

Take care,

Elizabeth Stephens
