Introduction
Many of us constantly work on improving the systems we use to help support our creative projects. Note-taking software like Notion (amongst many others) is one of the ways we try to bring improvements to processes. Because of the Notion learning curve, the need for templates and the many possibilities around it, there are many different routes towards the same goal: improving our systems.
So I have created a resource for Notion enthusiasts and sceptics alike, Notion Beautiful. The resource includes pages about Notion, things that go well with Notion and Notion altenratives.
Visual identity
There is more to the choice of software than functionality. The desire for elegant solutions is part of the creative psyche. Hence the idea (=notion) of 'Notion Beautiful'. The images that accompany this set of resources allude to an age of elegance and the art of fountain pen writing and calligraphy.
Arguably, the discipline required in creating an elegant writing hand (something essential in times gone by) is similar to the endeavour invested in learning pioneering software. The choice of imagery for Notion Beautiful alludes to this mindset of endeavour and elegance. There is a certain satisfaction in selecting the best paper, ink, pen and other tools for a task. It is hoped that to the modern creator Notion Beautiful will be a similar inspiration for tool selection and development.
The visual identity of Notion Beautiful can be best enjoyed while visiting the website I have been working on (scroll down for more). The smooth interactive experience created by the Softr team makes tasks - in this case, the process of evaluating and reviewing software, much more enjoyable.
Examples of what you will find
Exciting resources in all three categories await: a) about Notion, b) goes with Notion, and c) Notion Alternatives. An example of a page about Notion is Notion Everything, a website that highlights Notion templates. An example of add-ons or things that go with Notion is Chilli Pepper, a tool for creating elegant forms. Examples of Notion alternatives are Airtable and Walling. Airtable is a modern hybrid between a spreadsheet and a database with attractive presentation features. Walling is an intuitive visual organiser for individuals and teams.
Choose your format or view all three
The examples mentioned above are all featured in their respective categories. These resources are shown in three different ways. Choose the one closest to your working style. You may like to work:
- with Notion
- with Airtable
- with Airtable + Softr, to create a fully functioning website
If you are likely to have the time or inclination for only one of the resources, I would recommend the Airtable version as a standalone resource to explore. The choice is in your hands of course.
