ABQ + ATX Zine Fests and a new webcomic

Hi there!

Some things to share with you this week! (This is a buttondown newsletter for Christina’s art. I know it might look very similar to a personal email in your inbox? If this was forwarded to you, and ya dig you can subscribe here.)

中秋節快樂!

Upcoming Zine Fests

I’ll be tabling at Albuquerque Zine Fest on Saturday Oct 5th, and at Lone Star Zine Fest in Austin on Saturday Oct 19th! Info about both events below.

Albuquerque Zine Fest is happening Oct 5th, though it’s its 13th year, so do not be confused <3
Lone Star Zine Fest is happening both Sat + Sun; I will be tabling on Saturday only!

(Apologies for anyone who came out to Portland Zine Symposium to try and see me in September; I had cancelled my tabling because I couldn’t make the trip up, but it seems my name seemed to have still ended up on the vendor list!)

New Comic, New Essays

I made a diary comic about climate anxiety during LA’s recent heatwave.

You can read it online here. I will have zine copies available at ABQZF + LSZF!

I’ve also been writing essays over on my Wandering Grace Substack. If you’ve missed it, there have been kitten photos(!!!), and tales of moving cross-country for lurrrrrv, or something like that…

Things I would put in a listicle newsletter if I had one:

  • “Mask Up, We Need You”

  • “People can’t make risks assessments without knowing the risks” and our ethical obligations to each other in the midst of collapse

  • Prentis Hemphill and Kai Cheng Thom podcast convo on embracing our monstruousness, the myth of innocence, and the costs of creating 'safe spaces' in a culture where some are still more disposable than others.

  • For heritage language learners and creatives: Amanda L. Andrei on Unearthing Your Languages

  • My cozy spaces this week: Heartstopper Vol 5, surprise squishmallows, Opossum Lady, Taylor Tomlinson YT shorts, Vibe Check podcast, driving in the hills of LA to avoid traffic on the freeways even though it takes twice as long to get home and I get distracted by curbside furniture that I eventually decide not to take home with me.

Sending silliness and a bit of absurdity amidst the heaviness and overwhelm,
Christina
