GUIDANCE —
AA members have always struggled to explain the “God business.” We’ve never wanted to be seen as religious, yet we’ve consistently believed that some connection with a Higher Power is essential for true personal growth.
For our purposes, there’s nothing wrong with simply picturing God as a Higher Power that has always existed within us and around us. “Before they call, I will answer,” says an old proverb, and that held true even in our darkest moments. Many of us also believe that a Higher Power played a role in bringing AA into existence and guiding it to become a worldwide force for good.
Still, God often works in mysterious ways—sometimes through what seems like chance or coincidence. We frequently discover that small events have had profound, far-reaching effects on our lives. When reflecting on how these moments unfold, we shouldn’t assume they happen only to certain “special” people. All human beings are part of God’s creation and can access guidance and direction. The real challenge is that this guidance and direction are often ignored or rejected.
Today, I’ll go about my affairs trusting that my Higher Power is guiding the important decisions in my life. I’ll end up where God intends me to be.
