Finding Our True Selves —
During our drinking days, many of us undervalued ourselves, craving approval while feeling unworthy and accepting others’ negative judgments. We resented these opinions but secretly feared they were true. Through the Twelve Step program, we uncover a better self that was stifled during active addiction. We no longer need to impress others, seek applause, or rely on the false camaraderie of problem drinkers. We can become new people.
This transformation makes us wonder how we were so deceived by our sick selves. Sobriety brings relief, freeing us from old ways of living and thinking, as long as we prioritize recovery. In sobriety, we discover our true self—the person we were always meant to be, hidden by our addiction.
Today, I’ll live knowing my true self aligns with God’s purpose for me. Sobriety opens doors to answers and opportunities I couldn’t reach while drinking.
