fertile ground.
good morning to you,
The end of January approaches! It’s been a looooong month, hasn’t it?! Many elements of life have been clinging and mucky like moving through mud. But I suppose these conditions are when the ground is most fertile. When water and earth mix to soften and in the next few months to come, sown seeds are eager for the future.
So in this month, still cold and in the depth of winter - I’ve just tried my best to continue and sort through the seeds I’ll be eager to plant come springtime and curious about what will flourish soon.
In Chicago, the seasons are harsh. Summer is hot, days dangerously sticky, the copious amounts of glass and concrete buildings radiate, bounce, and swirl the heat around the city. Then comes the slow creeping respite of the chill of autumn, the leaves turning through the days. Winter seems to all rush towards you before you’re ready. And soon it’s bleak and you’re bundled up trekking through the muffled crunch of snow under your feet. Its -40C with the windchill and you still have to take your dog outside, my lil pup hated it and honestly so did I! Then comes the day in March where everything is breaking open and the smell of the earth is wet and fresh. The aroma of springtime bringing back all the songs of the birds out the window. Like how it feels now. The winter is definitely cold, but the season feels like a really long, much wetter & bone chilling springtime.
Lately I’ve been noticing the gorse blooming even more, although it blooms in cycles all year. The presence of the tiny yellow buds and their rich coconut essence seem to be waking up the branches even more. The trees still mostly barren without their leaves, but the prominent thorny bright bushes feel like a little peak into the doorway of springtime.
This is something that I was definitely not used to when I first moved here from Chicago - something is blooming all year round and maybe the ground is always fertile here.
february at slow down.
Next month I will be releasing my website, eek! I’ve been patiently and very impatiently working on. I think the thing with excitement about sharing things with you is that it just takes time, way more time, than I always initially think to craft and create something - but I suppose this is the thing of life.
I’m so excited to share this with you on 6 february.
