Welcome to Sketchnoting 101!

A very sketchy newsletter. Sketchy stuff for the creatively curious.

Welcome to Sketchnoting 101!

Hi, I’m April and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you.

It’s likely that we’ve already met over the years, either through one of my workshops, working together, or because you’re a friend (or all three — hi, Luboš!👋).

What kind, generous things you’ve all shared with me over the years about my playful notes, engaging teaching style, and impactful workshops. 🥹

You’ve truly helped build me up to bring this offering to the world.

So What Is Sketchnoting 101? 🤔

This coaching and workshop offering is my way of spreading the good word of sketchnoting to help as many folks as I can.

That’s because it’s about communication, not art.

An illustration saying: Sketchnoting has truly changed my life and I want others to see they can be visual thinkers regardless of drawing ability.

Through all of the different workshops I’ve run, sketchnoting styles I’ve seen, and practitioners I’ve admired, I know the direction I want to take this work in.

This is a true introductory “101” offering.

I want to ignite the sketchnoting fire for folks and take them from ⬇️

An illustration of a sad person trying to sketchnote and thinking, "There's no way I could do that!" who turns into a happy person sketchnoting thinking, "Wow! I can draw things that don't look terrible!"

While their skills will grow with time and practice, I love showing folks that they can sketchnote and work visually.

And how it can help them in so many ways ❤️

Whether they want to learn more efficiently, communicate more clearly, or think more creatively — sketchnoting is a skill that brings nothing but benefits.

And like a fine wine, it only gets better with time 🍷

What Can You Expect From This Newsletter?

Helpful, practical, and (ideally) inspirational resources and tips to help you get started with sketchnoting.

From sketchy spotlights on different tools and sketchnoters to sketchy updates on new 101 events and coaching giveaways, I aim to help build your sketchy confidence to bring visual thinking into your little slice of the world.

So let’s start with the free resources now!

👉 Free Resource: Visual Thinking Examples Miro Board

I share this Sketchnoting 101 - Visual Thinking Examples board with the humans I help through coaching and workshops.

This is a collection of visual thinking examples from my own work and the work of other sketchnoters out there.

It just continues to grow, and I’d like to share it with you!

Inside you’ll find:

- A sketchnote about sketchnoting (#meta)

- A breakdown of the 5 basic elements of sketchnotes

- Examples from my own work, both digital and analog

- A collection of other sketchnoters’ work along with their website links

Please feel free to share this with anyone you’d like!

The goal is to spread the good word of sketchnoting — and I need your help to do that.
