You Can’t Imagine Sisyphus Happy, Stop Trying

“Show me funny!”

Hello, I have a couple of links for you before we get into today’s paid-only article. I reviewed three Lunar New Year releases for Roger Ebert dot com, including the Tsui Hark-directed wuxia spectacular Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Gallants and the maximalist mythological fantasy Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force. I also reviewed the animated kids fantasy Ne Zha 2, which is now the highest grossing animated movie of all time and also China’s highest earning movie of all time, too. Three Chinese TV programs and one Chinese newspaper (link currently unavailable) have now interviewed me about about Ne Zha 2. None of my usual Western outlets are interested in feature coverage. Go figure. I also reviewed the indie horror drama The Dead Thing and the deep-sea diving rescue thriller Last Breath, both for Roger Ebert dot com.

Also, if you’re here in NYC, you might want to check out the Spectacle theater’s ongoing “Doom Boom” program of Hindi language Indian horror movies made by the pioneering Ramsay brothers and their family. I helped to organize this series, having previously written about the Ramsays in Fangoria (issue #363) and also put Deepak Ramsay in touch with the American Genre Film Archives with the specific goal of creating DCPs so that these movies can be seen in theaters with the best available presentation. Program notes and a schedule of screenings can be found here.
