Hey there PanPals!

A while back a friend of mine from Polyend (hi Alex!) got in touch about making a sample pack for them. He thought it would be cool to make one with my favourite fun instruments and soundmakers I use for cartoon music. I thought that was a splendid idea so I got to work recording all my silly instruments!

The sample pack is out now, it’s called Toy Box and it’s jam packed with 181 playful, whimsical sounds.

I wanted to share a video I worked on to help educate primary school kids and teachers about neurodiversity in the classroom. It’s called The Brainbow and you can watch it here.

It's been a long long while eh? Sorry about that. These days I seem to go in slow waves of introversion, interspersed with tinier smatterings of public parps.

Life is good though! Having two kids under 4 is quite a ride I can tell you. Good fun, and relentless and exhausting! They are entertaining though, especially my 1 year old who is starting to pick up words. He loves pointing at my 3 year old's plopped-in potty and shouting "POO POO!" which are two of my favourite words. The 3 year old is telling jokes now, with such rib ticklers as "A LION DOORKNOCKER." To which you stare blankly and say something like "Okay?" and he'll reply: "A LION KNOCKING AT THE DOOR." To which you can reply "Ha ha."

I've been trying to demonstrate how to tell funny jokes, but sadly I'm not funny. The best feedback I've got is "You should never tell that joke again, daddy."

It's been a fun few weeks getting my new album and its music videos out. Thanks to everyone who's supported it so far either via chipping in at Bandcamp or by leaving comments on YouTube and my website! I appreciate it so flippin much!

Hi Panpals!

It's been almost a year since I last wrote. What the heck happened? I guess I've been busy with work, with being a dad, and mentally preparing for the arrival of MY SECOND CHILD! That's right I gone and went and made another mini-pan, who arrived at the end of July! He's called Rudi and he's awesome. Since then I've been getting to grips with life with a 2.5 year old and a 0 year old which has been pretty INTENSE to say the least, but it's settling a bit now and we're all having a nice time for the most part (written with gritted teeth after my toddler woke up and kicked off for 2 hours in the middle of the night last night...)

I've recently been having real good time making silly songs outside, although it's getting colder now so we'll see if I have the guts to make more... Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy these outdoor performances :)

I recently made some music for a new handheld game console called Playdate! It's for the animation that plays when the device is switched on for the first time. The creators of the device just released an update video and you can watch the animation in full at the start of the video!

Happy days! An extended version of the title song I made for The Fungies (Cartoon Network) has just been released.

I produced this based on an original song by the show's creator Stephen Neary. He wanted to evoke the feeling he had watching cartoons from the 80s and 90s when he was a kid, so I really went to town with the 80/90s production style and over-earnest vocal performance! This extended version included some squelchy Fungie synthesizer and a growly sax solo for good measure. I hope you enjoy it!

I recently worked on an animated pilot called Pancake Panic with a big YouTube channel called Mashed. It's about a struggling jingle writer called Frankie who ends up in weird situations writing jingles for bizarre things - this time to help the Pancake Guild promote pancakes!

It’s been a while since I last wrote, and let me first address the elephant in the room because I NEED TO POST IT TO THE ZOO. Ok haha jokes aside now let me address the other elephant in the room: you sent me lots of great sounds and I haven’t made a track with them yet!

I’ve been busy writing music for The Fungies (Season 1 is now on Cartoon Network UK!) and caring for ma bebeh boy, but I will make something soon I . I actually spent an afternoon making a track but I wasn’t happy with it. Maybe it’s fine and I just need to persevere, but I wanted to burn it in a rusty bin by the end of the session so a bit of distance was necessary. CREATIVITY, YEAAAH! I think I might just start from scratch and come at it with a fresh attitude :)

A couple of months ago Sally, a teacher friend of mine, invited me to partake in a project she was doing with her students during lockdown. The kids were challenged to record sounds they found interesting at home using a phone or tablet. Sally sent the recordings to a selection of musicians to make a piece of music with, so the kids could hear how their sounds inspired creativity in different ways!

It took me a while to get to it but I’ve finally made a track with the incredible and unusual sounds the kids recorded!

This week I'm sharing a silly, sweet short story with you. It was inspired by Meg, who told me:

"I once knew a little red chicken who had been struck by lightning. She survived but as a result was quite loopy. She'd happily stand for ages on people's heads, so they named her Mutske ('Silly person' in Dutch). Unfortunately she recently passed away, so a nice little story about her would be fun!"

How are you doing? There's a lot going on in the world huh. I hope you're safe and well.

I've been taking some time to reflect on recent events and to start reading, watching and listening to more perspectives on racism and institutional inequality. I wrote some initial thoughts a couple of weeks ago: Black Lives Matter

Otherwise things are pretty ok with me! I've just finished music work on the first season of Cartoon Network's The Fungies, which will be out sooooon on HBOmax, and my baby boy is goshdang beautiful.
