The One That Got Away

Hi everybody. September really got away from me! I was in DC, at Gallaudet! I was in Boston, at BU and the Horace Mann School for the Deaf and the Watertown Public Library! (If I missed you, I signed some extra Biz for All She Wrote Books, too.) The feeling of being in community with deaf people and readers and deaf readers is always unmatched. But it also means that I definitely did not check my email for a few weeks...nor did I send out this newsletter.

September got away from me for a good reason, but lately, in the constant onslaught of terrible news, things have been getting away from me more and more. Sometimes I miss big news stories while perseverating on other big bad news stories. But most of the time, I miss the fun stuff. It's a hard time to make art, or release a book into this chaos. So I thought I'd take a minute to highlight a few of the things I did catch (and loved), in case you missed them.

Books: I've already talked up These Heathens by Mia McKenzie in other newsletters, but this book did not get the buzz it deserved and everyone I've handed it to has loved it.

Articulate by Rachel Kolb, new to the #DeafShelf this month! Check out the mini-interview with her here, too.
