Signal Drop #2: IPO paperwork, cheaper computer-use models

Wed Oct 28, 2026 · the AI news, short version

Morning. Two things that still matter this week, plus a short free-stuff note.

1. Anthropic files its S-1 for a Nasdaq IPO under ticker ANT - Anthropic, PBC filed a Form S-1 with the SEC on Oct 26 (acc-no 0001628280-26-067168). Price range and share count are still blank. - It has applied to list Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol ANT. - The filing spells out a public-benefit-corporation structure: a Long-Term Benefit Trust elects Class T directors who will be a board majority, and founders keep a Class F share with 50.1% voting power on most matters. - Bloomberg coverage of the same filing notes an unusually long risk section, including catastrophic or existential risks to humanity. - Takeaway: a frontier lab just put IPO paperwork in public. The governance is as interesting as the ticker. - Sources: SEC S-1 · Anthropic · Bloomberg

2. OpenAI ships GPT-6.1 Terra: faster computer use at half the prior Terra price - GPT-6.1 Terra is aimed at visual reasoning and computer use (forms, drawings, desktop workflows), with clearer writing than GPT-5.6 Terra. - Standard API pricing: $1 / $5 per million input / output tokens, and $0.05 for cached input — OpenAI says that is 50% below GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. - On Agents' Last Exam at medium effort, OpenAI reports +15 points vs GPT-5.6 Terra at about one-third the cost, and tasks completing over 3× faster than GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. - Internal error-inducing prompts: low-effort error rate 53.6% → 16.7%. Terminal-Bench 4.0 at max effort: 50.3% (more than double 5.6 Terra's 21.5%). OpenAI still points complex coding to Sol / Astra. - Available now in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus/Pro/Enterprise/Edu, and via the API as gpt-6.1-terra. - Takeaway: the cheap computer-use tier just got a real upgrade. Worth trying before you burn frontier tokens on form-filling. - Source: OpenAI
