Sideyard Coffee: October 31 - Zambia 🇿🇲
Dear Sideyard Friends,
I'm quite confident that this the first time I've tried a single origin coffee from Zambia and a quick look at this ordered list of coffee exports by country explains why! Zambia is 51st out of 51, having exported just 120 metric tons of coffee.* Compare that number to Ethiopia's 384,000 metric tons or Brazil at the top of the list with more than 2.6 million. While there are surely subsistence farmers in Zambia who depend on their annual coffee crop, the country as a whole relies mainly on copper and cobalt exports.
The roast level is on the lighter end of the spectrum, especially compared to the darker tones of the Rwandan from a few weeks back. With this lighter roast comes modest acidity, medium body, and spiced baker's chocolate (more so in the aroma). I'm enjoying it, despite the lack of wild fruit flavors!
This email also serves as your monthly reminder to re-up your subscription. If you are not interested in continuing, please let me know so I can plan my green coffee orders and roasts accordingly. I will otherwise assume continuation and will look for your Venmo or Zelle in the coming week. Here are the totals for November (four deliveries or pickups).
12oz/week: $48
16oz/week: $60
24oz/week: $90
32oz/week: $120
Venmo: @sideyardcoffee
Zelle: sideyardcoffee@gmail.com
If you're interested in extra bags of coffee for holiday gifts, you can add those to your monthly total or simply let me know at least a week in advance. $12 for each 12oz bag and $15 for each full pound bag. Thanks as always!
Cheers,
Ryan

*If I have my math right, 120 metric tons of coffee would fit in just 7 or 8 shipping containers. Not a lot!
p.s. The supplier I purchase bags from stopped stamping the compostable info on the bottom of their PLA-lined bags but the bags are still compostable! Simply tear off the tin tie closure and the rest can go straight into your (or your neighbor's) city compost container. 🎃
